Syfy has released the official teaser trailer for its new summer space opera, Dark Matter.
The show was created by Stargate writer-producer duo Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. It is based on their four-issue Dark Horse Comics graphic novel of the same name.
The series begins when several strangers wake up from stasis on a ship in space with no memory of who they are or how they got there. The trailer (below, courtesy of IGN) hints that they might not like what they learn about their past.
Writing on his blog, Mallozzi revealed that Dark Matter's 13-episode first season would be part of a two-'D' double header on Friday nights on Syfy in the United States: "SyFy Fridays returns to SyFy June 12th with an SF triple header! A two part premiere of Defiance kicks things off at 8:00 PM. And Dark Matter has the 10:00 PM slot."
Dark Matter's ensemble cast includes Roger Cross (Continuum, The Strain), Marc Bendavid, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr., Jodelle Ferland, Zoie Palmer and Canadian Idol winner Melissa O'Neil. It is produced in Toronto by Prodigy Pictures, the company behind Lost Girl.
