Activision has announced that its latest entry in the hit Skylanders video game franchise, Skylanders SuperChargers, will be playable on select iPhones and iPods as well as iPads and the newly announced Apple TV.
As with the previous Skylanders game, Skylanders Trap Team, there will be a special Starter Pack for mobile devices. This will come with a Bluetooth portal, an embedded Bluetooth controller and a built-in stand. Upon downloading the Skylanders SuperChargers app from the App Store, players will get access to the characters Instant Spit Fire and Instant Hot Streak. In-app purchases can be used to buy additional characters.
The full version of Skylanders SuperChargers, including online co-op and multiplayer racing, will be available on the following iOS mobile devices:
Some owners of older devices might be aggrieved that they won't be able to play Skylanders SuperChargers on the go, as may owners of Android phones and tablets. A version of Skylanders Trap Team was released on the Google Play app store for a limited range of Android tablets but there is no sign of an Android version of the latest Skylanders adventure.
Following Apple's announcement yesterday of a new Apple TV with an emphasis on gaming, Activision has also said that it will be bringing Skylanders SuperChargers to that device this Fall.
Details are limited but according to the description on the Activision Games Blog, the game can be played with the Bluetooth portal that comes with either the Skylanders SuperChargers Mobile Starter Pack or the Mobile Starter Pack for Skylanders Trap Team. The mobile version of SuperChargers will also include a cloud save feature that will allow progress to be synced across iOS devices, including the Apple TV.
In one more piece of Skylanders SuperChargers news, Activision has announced that it has partnered with British racing driver Max Chilton to promote the new game at the season finale of the Indy Lights Championship in Monterey, California, on September 12th and 13th. Chilton will drive what is described as a ‘Skylanders SuperCharged vehicle' that will display the Skylanders SuperChargers branding.
"The Skylanders SuperChargers game is all about speed, reactions and of course winning, so there are obvious parallels to real life racing, albeit I can't grab powerups or slow other drivers down with a laser cannon!" Chilton says in a press release. "I'm hoping for a strong finish to the season and targeting another podium or a win to round off the year with Carlin."
Skylanders SuperChargers will be released on September 20th.
