Last year we reviewed Concord Music Group’s remastered and expanded version of the classic Yuletide album A Charlie Brown Christmas, by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. If you didn’t snag it then, or simply need extra copies for friends or family (after all, it’s not only the soundtrack to the Peanuts special of the same name, but also to the holiday season in general), Concord has reissued it with updated packaging.
Watch the video to see how the CD sleeve for the new “Snoopy Doghouse Edition” unfolds to form a replica of Snoopy’s dwelling, complete with cut-outs of the Peanuts gang. It’s a cute addition to an already essential Christmas record, which includes all the timeless jazz themes composed and performed by the late piano great, Vince Guaraldi.
The original LP’s 11 tunes, boasting 24-bit remastering, are accompanied by three bonus tracks: “Greensleeves,” “Great Pumpkin Waltz,” and “Thanksgiving Theme.” In addition to its enduring popularity year after year, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007.
Vince Guaraldi composed the scores for 17 Peanuts animated television specials during his lifetime, which ended at the untimely age of 47 (in 1976). Through his Peanuts scores, Guaraldi has been responsible for bringing jazz to millions who may never have listened to it otherwise.
